Please follow the steps below to set up the "Knock" function. (Please note that this feature is currently only available for iOS users - we're still trying to find a way around hardware limitations for Android devices. We'll let you know if we have any updates!)
Step 1: Open the Sesame app, click on the little gear icon on the top left of the main menu
Step 2: Tap on the little gear icon on the top right of your Sesame menu
Step 3: In Account Settings, scroll to the “KNOCK & AUTO-UNLOCK” section
Step 4: First enable the “KNOCK & AUTO-UNLOCK” function, mark by “1”. Second, check under the "knock" feature of your Sesame
Step 5: You will be asked to set your location; double check to make sure your GPS is enabled in phone’s settings.
Step 6: When the Knock function is successfully set up, the message “Location updated successfully” will show up.
◆ Please note:
1. The "Knock" function is NOT able to lock your door.
2. The "Knock"function can only be triggered when
1) your door is locked
2) you knock your phone 3 times in a row like what we did in the tutorial: Knock Knock Knock by CANDY HOUSE
◆ When the "Knock" function is not working properly, please make sure:
1. You are within the Bluetooth range (10m or 33 ft)
2. Your Bluetooth is ON.
3. Your location service is ON. (You may check: Learn how to turn Location Services on or off for individual apps.)
4. Your lock is LOCKED.
Why does my “knock to unlock” function only work sometimes?
After successfully unlocking your door by knocking 3 times, this function will temporary deactivate. This is to prevent Sesame from "accidentally" unlocking itself if you throw your phone on the bed or couch when you get home. All you have to do is enter the app screen to "refresh" it There is no need to readjust any setting.
Another thing to note is that there can only be a time lag of 5 minuter or less between opening the app and using the "knock to unlock" function. In other words, the "knock to unlock" function works only when you have opened the app 5 minutes prior to using it. This is also to ensure that you do not unlock your door if you accidentally knock on your phone.
